Description

This transmission is of the synchro-less, constant mesh type. Dog clutches are used to engage each gear. A rotary drum contains geometry that interfaces with cam followers on the shift forks to permit their orchestrated sequential movement . A servo motor controls the indexing of the rotary drum. The center differential is included within the transmission housing. All of the gears' teeth were designed with involute curve geometry. The center differential uses straight bevel gears while the forward gears are helical spur gears. Reverse is by way of a chain drive to alter the direction of the output. All of the parts were designed with manufacturability in mind. Excel was used to calculate the gear ratios, the many points which make up the involute curves, and the helices which were used to sweep the involute profiles across the face of the gears.
